GVS Scholastic Chess Tournament

General Information:​​

• Game Format: Quads

  • Quads, as a tournament type, groups four players of similar skill (based off rating) into a round-robin section. Each player faces the other three, ensuring a competitive and balanced mini-tournament. This format guarantees three games and often results in a clear winner within the section.

  • If there are not enough players to fill all scheduled quads, the affected players will be combined into a single section and compete using the Swiss system for 3 rounds.

  • There are 3 rounds, first round will start at 9:00 AM, all following rounds will start ASAP.

  • NO BYES ARE ALLOWED, $25 forfeit fee charged for dropping out before the tournament is completed.

• Date: April 18, May 9, June 6

• Time Control: G/35;d5

• Venue: Gantry View School (5-36 50th Ave, Long Island City, NY 11101)

• USCF Membership: Current USCF membership required for rated quads

• Entry Fee: $50

• Lunch: Pizza will also be provided

• Equipment: Chess sets, chess clocks, and notation sheets provided​

• Drop-off starts at 8:40 AM. The event is a drop-off event. Parents are required to drop-off kids at the school entrance by 8:55 AM and pick them up at the conclusion of the event, which is about 1 PM.

• For the quads that have finished early, early pick up is possible. Please email empire.chess.tournament@gmail.com.

• Prizes: Trophys for all 1st place winners in their quad.
